Googley..Phagwa and Pichakaaree

The festival of colour is approaching, and participants have two weekends to observe this festive occasion.
That is because while the actual Phagwa day falls on March 25, some Hindu organisations have chosen to celebrate the weekend before, and others the weekend after.
The Hindu Prachar Kendra, led by its president, Geeta Ramsingh (Vahini), will be observing this sacred and festive tradition on March 24. Ramsingh said the decision to observe the festival on March 24 is based on the Kendra’s guiding principal to observe the occasion on the nearest weekend.

One of the most iconic features of the Kendra’s Phagwa celebration is the Pichakaaree competition.
“Pichakaaree is the singing of local Phagwa songs, mainly in English, with the compulsory use of Hindi words and phrases that are part of our common vocabulary,” Ramsingh said.
